What is HEDIS?
HEDIS stands for Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set. There are 71 categories in 8 domains of care that healthcare organizations are evaluated on. It was created by NCQA to measure performance in the managed care industry throughout the US. Organizations are analyzed and compared to similar entities to identify areas that should be improved to enhance patient outcomes. HEDIS data has been collected since 1997 – that’s 17 years! More than 90% of all healthcare plans in the US utilize HEDIS measures during operations. Not only healthcare plans use HEDIS for benchmarking – including the Accreditation Scoring Report, Quality Compass, and State of Health Care Quality.
The purpose of HEDIS is to spur improvement in healthcare facilities across the nation. Everyone who participates in HEDIS contributes to the progress that is continually being made throughout the nation.
Who are HEDIS nurses?
