NCQA Making Two Changes to Annual HEDIS Specification Publications

NCQA Making Two Changes to Annual HEDIS Specification Publications

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is the leader in healthcare accreditation. They are tasked with managing HEDIS and the accompanying specification publications. The NCQA is making two significant changes to the HEDIS specification publications. Keep reading to learn more about these changes and how HEDIS Nurses can help you stay up to date with these changes and other changes that may be coming down the line.

What is changing?

The NCQA is planning to release the complete measure specifications to the HEDIS community sooner in 2021. They are changing three dates in the publication timeline. Volumes 1 & 2 Publication Date will remain July 1, 2020. However, the Vol. 2 Technical Update Publication Date is changing to March 31, 2021, instead of October. In addition, the HEDIS Vendor Certification Deadline is moving to October 1, 2021, instead of February.

What is not changing?

While several changes are being made to the specification publication timeline, many aspects are not changing. This includes:

  • HEDIS 2020 publications in the calendar year 2019
  • Publication Dates for HEDIS Volumes 3, 5, 6
  • HEDIS Vendor Certification dates for Survey Sample Frames
  • Data Submission dates
  • Date First-Year Public Reporting is released
  • Quality Compass product release dates

What is the HEDIS publication naming convention change?

There will also be a new naming convention for the HEDIS Measurement Year and Reporting Year. All HEDIS volumes will adhere to the new naming convention as follows:

  • HEDIS Measurement Year ####, to be shortened to HEDIS MY #### (where “####” is the four-digit year)

This change will coincide with the HEDIS timeline starting in 2020 and ending in 2021.
