Serve Patients From Your Home Office

Serve Patients From Your Home Office

People who chose to become nurses are usually caring, altruistic, and serving individuals. Nurses typically work in a hospital or clinic type settings. These work environments frequently have busy work schedules with long days. It makes it difficult for nurses with families to manage their work and home responsibilities. However, non-traditional career paths for nurses can allow for a better schedule. Becoming a HEDIS Nurse is one of the ways that you can work from your home office and serve patients all at the same time!

What is HEDIS?

HEDIS stands for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set. The HEDIS measures were developed by the NCQA and are one of healthcare’s most widely utilized performance improvement tools. Data collected by the HEDIS initiatives allow for healthcare facilities to compare and measure against each other so that they can improve their services and care for their patients. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require that healthcare plans submit HEDIS measures for enrollees in the Medicare Advantage program. Starting this year, 2019, the NCQA will be using a digital process for data collection.

What does a HEDIS Nurse do?

The main objective for all HEDIS nurses is to improve the healthcare outcomes in the United States for patients. HEDIS nurses collect information for the HEDIS measures from 6 different domains of care:

  • Effectiveness of Care
  • Access/Availability of Care
  • Experience of Care
  • Utilization and Risk Adjusted Utilization
  • Health Plan Descriptive Information
  • Measures Collected Using Electronic Clinical Data Systems

The data collected through the HEDIS initiatives are compiled and analyzed to produce information that can be used to improve the quality of care provided to patients. Healthcare institutions and plans have relied on HEDIS data to identify quality improvement processes and outcomes. The work that HEDIS nurses do and contribute to is certainly a noble one!
