In that same spirit, we offer you our top 10 summer health hacks. May you and your family, friends, and neighbors have a wonderful, healthy, safe summer 2015!

  1. Stock up on sunscreen
  2. Your beach bag is ready with lots of toys, sandcastle building tools, quarters for the parking meters, a new novel, sunhats, and so on. The kids are finally in their bathing suits with teeth brushed and hair combed. There’s only one major problem… you just checked your bottle of sunscreen and there’s only a little squirt left! Oh man, this stinks. It’s not nearly enough to get you through the day. You’ll have to make another trip the store, while wrangling the kids and trying to hurry so all the parking spots won’t be taken by the time you make it to the beach. Ugh! Avoid the hassle by stocking up on tons of sunscreen now. Trust us… you’re going to need it this summer.

  3. Stay hydrated.
  4. Bring a reusable water bottle with you everywhere—while running errands, on play dates for the kids, at sports events, date night… you name it. Staying hydrated helps keep your energy levels up and wards of dehydration, which can have serious health consequences. Plus well-hydrated people are just happier!

One easy way to help yourself drink more water is to write various times of day on your water bottle and be sure to drink up to that mark on schedule. It’s a helpful reminder as you go about your day.

  5. Pay Yourself to Exercise
  6. It’s a fun idea that brings real results—every time you exercise, even if it’s just for 15 minutes—put a dollar into a jar. Then when the jar eventually becomes full, dump it out and treat yourself to something special. Having that visual image of your jar filling up, and hearing the satisfying “clink” of the coins, will motivate you to keep up with your exercise goals this summer.

  7. Eat half an avocado right when you wake up.
  8. Avocado is full of healthy fat and vitamins that will jump start your day. You’ll get the energy you need without having to boost your spirits with a sweet drink or pastry.

  9. Add cucumber slices to your summer routine

It’s prime pollen season, and those who have allergies are starting to have to deal with incredibly itchy eyes. Sooth them naturally by placing cucumber slices over them for a few minutes. It really does work—it’s not just for the luxury salons anymore—just regular people. Another way to get relief for summer allergies is with honey, which is naturally inflammatory. Stir some into your yogurt, cereal, smoothie, or toast in the mornings to start your day off nicely.
